Yeah, Palm Springs got a gay Mayor and a gay majority on the City Council in 2003! This is rapidly becoming a gay town. Not exclusively gay, for sure -- that would be horribly confining and monotonous. But, according to the 2000 census, we are now almost half of the total population, and that makes the town most livable. Not only do we see gay singles and couples everywhere; we are also respected everywhere. Businesses can not disdain us (they need our patronage), and by interfacing with gay people all the time, folks in this town have discovered that we are at least as nice and interesting as everyone else.

The same goes for Cathedral City, where we are some 30 to 35 percent of the total. In the other adjacent towns (Desert Hot Springs, Thousand Palms, Rancho Mirage, and Palm Desert) we do not weigh in as heavily in numbers, but we are treated royally (equal to straights) everywhere. We have arrived here, and if gay life were like in this valley everywhere in America, wouldn't it be loverly?
This page tells you a little about our towns, and also includes maps of Palm Springs and Cathedral City, with all the gay resorts here shown with clickable letters so that you can access their websites.
Palm Springs is located two hours east of Los Angeles right in the Coachella valley, surrounded by mountains, of which some are over 10000 feet tall. This geography makes for a peculiar climate: winters are mild and summers exceedingly hot. The sky is almost always clear, and it actually rains or drizzles only during some 20 days a year. Therefore, nature in this valley is desert, and it is a nature we all have come to love dearly. The sunny, mild weather is in and of itself a boon for gay men, who love to hang around swimming pools (we have over 8000 of those here!).
Of these 8000 pools, at least one, sometimes two or even three, are located on the premises of a gay resort, filled with and surrounded by luscious gay men, mostly au naturel. And when we count to almost three dozen of these gay resorts, that's a lot of men! In fact, we have more gay hotels than any community anywhere in the wide world.
The Coachella Valley has many towns, most of them joined into one super-community. Palm Springs is just one of these towns, but for gay men Palm Springs is the epicenter. This is where almost all of the gay resorts are located, and this is where virtually all gay action can be found. We want to show you around.
The gay street is one block of Arenas Road; not much, some may say, but you have to realize that we are treated so well everywhere that there is not that much of a need for a "gay area" here. In fact, it is not crowded with gay men hanging out there, as they usually are on Christopher and Castro. The locals are often at home, with or without friends, and the tourists are in the gorgeous resorts, usually making friends (and love) with the other guests. At dinnertime, the locals and the tourists meet in the restaurants (click) and later in the bars (click).
To give you an idea of where things are, we give you here first an overview map of Palm Springs and Cathedral City. You can see which areas are the most interesting, and for those areas you'll get specialty maps for the details. The gay resorts are clearly marked, and their own web sites are only a click away. Do make use of these resort web sites even if you don't plan to stay there -- many of them are chock-full of suggestions about how to spend your gay days (and nights) here.
