Palm Springs for Gay Men: Gay Events 1998 - 2003
From 1998 through 2003 the Events page on this website attempted to cover every minute event with any gay interest, something that was entirely feasible during the first years and became more and more hopeless as time went on. Were we getting lazy? Not at all: our community grew and grew and finally exploded. We simply could not keep up. We made heroic attempts to cover everything in sight, and we did a decent job at it, but at the cost of all the other pages. When we had updated the damned Events page, we were so exhausted that we couldn't look at anything more. Bad balance, quality deterioration ... should we give up the ghost and let the whole ship sink?
No, we did not want that to happen. Instead we decided to abandon the hopeless idea of keeping up with all the daily details in the wild gay desert world. We would focus in on our community as a whole and on recurring events, making our wonderful "Things to Do" page even better and forge ahead with all the other useful and fun pages. And refer to the four local gay rags for the day-to-day upkeep - they were by definition ahead of us doing that anyway.
The transfer of information from the 2004 Events page is finished; only the skeleton is left, and its whole purpose is to serve as a link to the old Events pages for 1998 to 2003. Here is where you select which historic page you want to see, and when you get that page you see all the details that almost killed us. Enjoy the events that defined gay life in the Palm Springs area during those years, and then come back to today by way of all our current pages that are vibrant and exciting. Gay life here is better and stronger now than ever, and we reflect it better than any other website. Yes, we are cocky about it.
